Global Hydrogen Development Highlights for Week 25, 2024
Hyundai Motor HTWO Delivers First 40 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Light Trucks in Guangzhou
On 13th June, the delivery of the first 40 hydrogen logistics vehicles of HTWO Guangzhou Hyundai Commercial Vehicle of Guangzhou Development Zone Jiaotou Group and the launching ceremony of hydrogen green logistics and distribution were held grandly in Huangpu Plant of Hyundai Motor Hydrogen Fuel Cell System (Guangzhou) Co. Centro Hydrogen Fuel Cell Light Truck was officially delivered to customers and joined the promotion of hydrogen energy demonstration application in Huangpu District. This is an important breakthrough for Hyundai Commercial Vehicle in the field of hydrogen fuel cell technology, and it also injects a strong impetus for the transformation and upgrading of green transport in the Greater Bay Area.
The European Hydrogen Bank's green hydrogen subsidy shrinks
The EU's second round of the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB) Green Hydrogen Subsidy Bidding Programme, which is due to be launched in the autumn of 2024, has a budget of just €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion). This figure is €1 billion less than expected, and the EU has reportedly denied to stakeholders that it had intended to use the entire remaining €2.2 billion for this bid.

Thailand gears up for hydrogen economy
Thailand is reportedly gearing up to build a hydrogen economy, with companies and the state working together to boost the hydrogen fuel business to promote the use of clean energy. The country's potential to build a low-carbon driven economy is emerging as PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), Thailand's petrochemical producer with the largest capacity, and Bangkok Industrial Gas (BIG), Thailand's industrial gas producer with the largest capacity, have announced a joint study to develop a low-carbon driven economy. The Office of Energy Policy and Planning said the authorities plan to include hydrogen fuel in the revised power development plan, with the goal of generating 5 per cent of total power supply from hydrogen.

Russian Scientists Propose Brand New Method of Producing Hydrogen in Gas Wells
Researchers at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow have proposed a new method of producing hydrogen in gas wells without bringing carbon molecules to the surface, a technique that could extract 45 per cent of the total gas volume of the reservoir while leaving the carbon molecules in the ground. If proven, this would eliminate the need for expensive carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

France opens first MW-scale fuel cell plant
Recently, France opened its first MW-class fuel cell plant. It is understood that France's first MW-class fuel cell plant was inaugurated at the end of June, but specific commercial production is not expected to officially begin until 2026, the plant aims to expand to 1GW in 2030.

TotalEnergies and Air Products Sign Green Hydrogen Purchase Agreement
French energy giant TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year agreement with industrial gas company Air Products. Air Products will supply 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year to TotalEnergies' Nordic refineries from 2030. According to the agreement, Air Products will use its global project portfolio to supply TotalEnergies with green hydrogen. This ensures that TotalEnergies will have access to a reliable and stable supply of green hydrogen, which will be used to decarbonise the refinery.
